Using Respondus Monitor in D2L with a Hawkes WebTest

Checklist Before Starting

Add a Link to a Hawkes WebTest to a D2L Quiz

1. Create and name a quiz in D2L.

a. Enter a name

b. Press Create and Insert

2. Select Go to Quiz.

3. Select Add/Edit Questions.

4. Select Add an then Section.

a. Enter the Section Title. (This can be hidden from students.)

b. In the Section Text area, include:

    • Any relevant directions for taking the WebTest, such as:

      1. Launch the WebTest in Hawkes using the following link: [Insert Hawkes WebTest name]
      2. Complete and submit your Hawkes WebTest
      3. Close the Hawkes tab to return to the D2L tab
      4. Answer this question, and submit the D2L quiz to finish

    • The direct link to the Hawkes WebTest (Instructions below.)

c. To add the direct link, start by selecting the enter full screen icon.


d. Highlight "[Insert Hawkes WebTest name]" in Step 1.

d. Select the Add Link button.


e. Select External Learning Tools.

f. Select the Hawkes WebTest you want to link.

g. Use your mouse to highlight the WebTest link again, and select the Add Link button again.

h. Select New Window.


i. Select Update.

j. Exit full screen mode by selecting the Close Full Screen Editor icon in the top-right corner.

k. Select Hide Section Text from learners.

l. Press Save.

5. Select Add and then New Question.

a. Select True/False as the question type.

b. Create the question.

    • Suggested question text: After following the above instructions to take [Hawkes WebTest name] within Hawkes, return to this page, select True to confirm that you took the WebTest in Hawkes, and submit this quiz.

c. Press Save.

6. Select Back to Settings for [quiz name] in the top-left corner.

7. Edit the settings.

a. Properties:

    • Include a Description or Introduction if desired.

b. Restrictions:

    • Under Availability, add start and end dates that correspond to the start and end dates that you entered for the Hawkes WebTest.
    • Under Timing, if you would like to set a time limit for the D2L quiz, we recommend setting the time limit to be a minimum of five minutes more than the time limit for the Hawkes WebTest.

c. Assessment:

    • The WebTest is graded in Hawkes, and the grade is synced with D2L via the Hawkes Synchronization Tool.
    • Attempts can be limited through D2L, Hawkes or both.

d. Submission Views:

    • Make note of how students can review the test.

8. Press Save and Close.

Enable Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor Within D2L

1. Within D2L, select LockDown Browser.

2. Select the down arrow next to the D2L quiz you created, and select Settings.


3. Select "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam".


4. Expand the Advanced Settings by selecting the "+" plus sign.

5. Check the box for "Allow access to specific external web domains".


6. Copy and paste the following web domains into the box:

  • hawkeslearning.com
  • learn.hawkeslearning.com
  • lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com
  • http://support.hawkeslearning.com
  • [Your specific LMS domain]
    • [Your specific LMS domain] is the domain displayed when you are logged into your D2L account. It is everything after https:// and ends with .edu or .com. For example, in the screenshot below, the domain needed would be the highlighted portion of the URL.

7. Select "Require Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) for this exam".


8. Adjust the Startup Sequence to your preference.

8. Select Save + Close. This may take a moment to process.

9. Scroll up to confirm that LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are required for the D2L quiz.


Recommendations

  • Consider creating and including an honor code question for students.
