Hawkes Learning AI Tutor
AI Tutor is our generative AI chat built right in to the Hawkes student platform and provides immediate help while in Practice mode. It’s designed to go at your pace, offering simple, helpful feedback to guide you through the learning process.
AI Tutor is:
- WCAG Level 2.0 compliant.
- References only Hawkes instructional content, ensuring answers are accurate and consistent with student materials.
- Available for all Hawkes Learning products and automatically included in Practice mode.
How to Use AI Tutor
Hawkes AI Tutor can be used while in Practice mode for any Lesson.
1. Open Practice mode for a Lesson.
2. Click the AI Tutor icon in the bottom-right corner.
3. Start typing in your question to receive immediate, AI driven feedback and help. You can also select one of the pre-created questions to get started.

1. How is AI Tutor different from other AI tools?
- AI doesn’t have to be overwhelming. When it’s built with safety and user-experience in mind, it can be a great help. Our AI Tutor references instructional content from the Hawkes library, ensuring you receive relevant, consistent, and accurate answers. When you inquire about topics beyond the course content, AI Tutor may seek additional information to provide comprehensive and clear explanations. If it is too far off topic, AI Tutor will guide you back to practice question, helping you stay focused and avoid distractions.
2. How does AI Tutor benefit you as a student?
- AI Tutor provides an individualized support system at times when your instructors or campus tutors are not available. It helps fill in the conceptual gaps, breaks down difficult topics, and provides real-world examples to take learning further. This tool works on your timeline and schedule to best help you when you need it most.
3. What is the difference between generative AI and predictive AI? Which does AI Tutor use?
- Generative AI creates brand new content while predictive AI references historical data to create predictions. AI Tutor utilizes generative AI which allows the tool to meet you exactly where you are and responds to your questions in real time as opposed to making assumptions about what it thinks you need to know.
4. Will AI Tutor overload me with information?
- No! AI Tutor uses a simple interface and offers limited choices, so you can focus your brainpower on the content. It will answer one question at a time with options for you to follow up or extend the discussion as you wish. At any point, you can close out of the tool or minimize it for later use.
5. Can AI Tutor explain things in a simpler way?
- Absolutely! Ask AI Tutor to clarify vocabulary or explain a concept from step one. This is one of the things the tool does best.
6. Will AI Tutor work on all products and practice problems?
- AI Tutor is still learning, but it can help with most Practice questions across all products! If it comes across an image it can't understand yet, it'll ask you to describe it so it can still assist you.
7. Will AI Tutor provide answers that will encourage or allow cheating?
- No! If an assessment question is copied directly into the chat, AI Tutor will recognize it and prompt you to focus on understanding the content instead.
8. Will my chat history save when I move on to new questions in Practice?
- Yes! Your chat history will be saved from one question to the next allowing for easy reference as you work through a lesson. The history will clear when you exit or refresh the page.
9. What if I make spelling and grammatical mistakes in my writing to AI Tutor? Will it understand what I am saying
- It should! AI Tutor is designed to handle these kinds of mistakes and still understand your comments and questions. Whether English is not your primary language, or you’ve just accidentally made mistakes in your writing, the tool should be able to converse with you easily.
10. Will AI Tutor be available on Certify?
- No! Just like all our learning aids, AI Tutor won’t be available in Certify, so you’ll still need to independently demonstrate understanding of a concept.
11. Will using AI Tutor slow down my internet speed?
- No! Hawkes internal systems will handle this, and it shouldn’t have any impact on your connectivity or internet speed.
12. Is this going to replace the live chat?
- No! AI Tutor is specifically for instructional support, and it cannot help with any general technical concerns. You will still be able to get help from a real person via Customer Support whenever you need it.
13. What will happen to my personal data?
- Nothing, everything personal will stay within the Hawkes ecosystem. We do not share your data with anyone.
14. How will data collected by AI Tutor be used at Hawkes?
- It will only be used to improve and further develop the tool as well as learn your tendencies to better support individual needs.
