Using Respondus Monitor in Moodle with a Hawkes WebTest

The option to require Respondus Monitor is currently available by request. Please email training@hawkeslearning.com if you would like to have this feature enabled.

Checklist Before Starting

Note: Due to the many different Moodle setups, these directions may not be completely accurate for your school. If this is the case, please contact your Hawkes Training and Support Representative.

Add a Link to a Hawkes WebTest to a Moodle Test

1. Open the linked Moodle course that has the WebTest assigned requiring Respondus Monitor.

a. Copy the link from the Hawkes Single Sign On tool

    • Go to where your Hawkes Single Sign On link is located, right-click on it, and choose ???Copy link address???

b. Save the link address so that you can use it in step 8c below

2. Create and name a test in Moodle.

a. Turn on editing mode in Moodle.

b. Select Add an Activity or Resource.

c. Select the Quiz option.

d. Enter a Name and Description for your quiz.

    • Recommendation: Add test instructions explaining that this test must be taken using Respondus Lockdown Browser.

e. Select your timing options.

    • Recommendation: If you would like to add a time limit in Moodle, add a time limit that is at least five minutes longer than the time limit for your Hawkes WebTest. Set the open and close dates and times of the Moodle quiz to be the same as the Hawkes WebTest dates and times.

3. Select Save and display. This should take you to a page with the message "no questions have been added yet".

4. Select Edit quiz.

5. Select the Add drop-down on the right side, and choose "+ a new question".

6. Scroll down to the Other category, and select Description.

7. Select Add.

8. Enter a Question Name and Question Text.

a. For the question name, enter any name you would like.

b. For the question text, include any relevant directions for taking the WebTest, such as:

1. Access your Hawkes account using the following link: Hawkes Single Sign On link
2. Navigate to your To-Do List in Hawkes to access the WebTest
3. Complete and submit your Hawkes WebTest
4. Close the Hawkes tab to return to the Moodle tab
5. Submit the Moodle quiz to finish

c. Add the direct link to the Hawkes WebTest to the Question text.

i. Use your mouse to select/highlight "Hawkes Single Sign On link" in Step 1, and select the Link button.
  
ii. In the window that appears, paste the link address that you saved from Step 1b above. Select "Open in a new window".
iii. Press Create link.

9. Scroll down to the bottom, and select Save changes.

10. In the Maximum grade field on the right, change the maximum score to '0.00', and press Save.

Enable Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor Within Moodle

1. Within Moodle, scroll to the bottom of the left navigation area, select "Add a block" and select Respondus.

2. Navigate to the Respondus block's dashboard. This will bring up the Dashboard for enabling Respondus Monitor.

  • Depending on your version of Moodle, either select the Respondus Block or select Dashboard under the Respondus Block.

3. Select the down arrow next to the Moodle quiz you created, and select Settings.


4. Select "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam".


5. Expand the Advanced Settings by selecting the "+" plus sign.

6. Check the box for "Allow access to specific external web domains".


7. Copy and paste the following web domains into the box:

  • hawkeslearning.com
  • learn.hawkeslearning.com
  • lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com
  • http://support.hawkeslearning.com
  • [Your specific LMS domain]
    • [Your specific LMS domain] is the domain displayed when you are logged into your Moodle account. It is everything after https:// and ends with .edu or .com. For example, in the screenshot below, the domain needed would be the highlighted portion of the URL.


8. Select "Require Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) for this exam". Adjust the startup sequence to your preference.


9. Select Save + Close. This may take a moment to process.

10. Scroll up to confirm that LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are required for the Moodle quiz.
