How to Set up the Hawkes Synchronization Tool and Single Sign On Link for Blackboard Standalone

The Hawkes Synchronization Tool allows instructors to synchronize their students??? Hawkes grades with Blackboard. The Hawkes Single Sign On link allows students to access the Hawkes web platform directly from Blackboard without having to enter login credentials.

To set up the Hawkes Synchronization Tool in your standalone instance of Blackboard, please follow the steps below.

1. Add Generic User

a. Go to System Admin > Users

b. Select Create User

c. Enter the following:

i. First Name: Hawkes

ii. Last Name: Sync

iii. Username: hawkessync

iv. Password: <any password of your choice>

v. Primary Institutional Role: Student

d. Press Submit

2. Update Feature Availability

a. Go to System Admin > Building Blocks > LTI Tool Providers

b. Select Manage Global Properties

c. For ???Enabled in Courses???, select ???Yes???

d. Press Submit

3. Create Integration

a. Go to System Admin > REST API Integrations

b. Select Create Integration

c. Enter the Application ID provided to you by Hawkes Learning

d. For Learn User, press Browse???

e. Select the generic Hawkes Sync user

f. Press Submit

g. Press Submit again

4. Register Provider Domain

a. Go to System Admin > Building Blocks > LTI Tool Providers

b. Select Register Provider Domain

c. Set the following parameters:

i. Provider Domain: lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com

ii. Provider Domain Status: Approved

iii. Secondary Hostnames: <leave blank>

iv. Default Configuration: Set globally

v. Tool Provider Key: Consumer key provided by Hawkes Learning

vi. Tool Provider Secret: Shared secret provided by Hawkes Learning

vii. Tool Provider Custom Parameters:  

blackboard_user_id=@X@user.pk_string@X@
blackboard_course_id=@X@course.pk_string@X@

viii. Send User Data: Send user data only over SSL

ix. User Fields to Send: Constituency in Course, Name, Email Address

x. Show User Acknowledgment Message: No

d. Press Submit

5. Create Placement

a. Go to System Admin > Building Blocks > LTI Tool Providers

b. Hover over the entry for lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com and open the Options Menu

c. Select Manage Placements

d. Select Create Placement

e. Set the following parameters:

i. Label: Hawkes Sync Tool

ii. Description: Instructor tool used to sync Hawkes Learning assignments and grades with Blackboard

iii. Handle: Hawkes Sync Tool

iv. Type: Course Tool > Non-student

v. Icon: https://course.hawkeslearning.com/repo/images/Quant.gif

vi. Tool Provider URL: https://lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com/LTILaunch

vii. Tool Provider Key: <prefilled>

viii. Tool Provider Secret: <prefilled>

ix. Tool Provider Custom Parameters: <prefilled>

f. Press Submit

Once the placement is created, the Hawkes Sync Tool will be located in the Course Tools menu under Course Management in the left navigation bar of every course.

To set up the Hawkes Single Sign On link in your standalone instance of Blackboard, please follow the steps below after creating the integration and registering the provider domain.

1. Create Placement

a. Go to System Admin > Building Blocks > LTI Tool Providers

b. Hover over the entry for lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com and open the Options Menu

c. Select Manage Placements

d. Select Create Placement

e. Set the following parameters:

i. Label: Hawkes Single Sign On

ii. Description: Access your Hawkes Learning account

iii. Handle: Hawkes Single Sign On

iv. Type: Course Tool > Student

v. Icon: https://course.hawkeslearning.com/repo/images/Quant.gif

vi. Tool Provider URL: https://lmssynctool.hawkeslearning.com/LTISSOLaunch

vii. Tool Provider Key: <prefilled>

viii. Tool Provider Secret: <prefilled>

ix. Tool Provider Custom Parameters: <prefilled>

f. Press Submit

2. Add Tool to Course

a. Open the course

b. Select Content

c. Select the Tools menu

d. Select the Hawkes Single Sign On entry

e. For name, enter "Hawkes Single Sign On"

f. For ???Permit Users to View this Content???, select Yes

g. Press Submit
