What are Learn, Practice, and Certify Modes?

In each lesson in the Student Software, there are three modes - Learn, Practice, and Certify.

Learn presents the concepts, definitions, and examples for the lesson. Supplemental videos can be accessed directly through Learn or online at http://www.hawkeslearning.tv/.

Practice offers unlimited practice problems with helpful feedback and an interactive Tutor mode. Tutor provides a fully worked-out solution and a hint or a complete step-by-step guide to finding the solution. You can select the level of difficulty you want to practice at by choosing from the drop-down menu. The level will be set at pre-Certify by default.

Certify is where you will complete homework assignments. In Certify, you will be given a set of questions to answer in random order and with randomly generated values. The total number of steps and the number of strikes you have remaining will be displayed on the screen.

Each time you answer a question incorrectly, you will be given a strike. To receive credit for a lesson, you must reach the mastery level set by your instructor. If you receive too many strikes, you will be required to attempt Certify again from the beginning for that lesson. It is recommended that you return to Learn and Practice before re-attempting Certify.

You are allowed an unlimited number of attempts to certify. Once you have mastered Certify for a lesson, your grade will be automatically reflected in your grade report and in your instructor's Grade Book.
